Wyre Forest - Two-barred Crossbill

I spent most of Wednesday flogging around Wyre to no avail and Sunday was heading the same way until a fortuitous couple of minutes with this cracking male Two-barred Crossbill!

No wing bars visible here but it coveys the size difference with this female Common Crossbill nearby.

Now that's what I call white wingbars and tertial tips!

A brief feed on tiny buds within the foliage......

And then with a turn of the head, posing nicely :-)

Persistence certainly pays off, and wow that did make my day!
