We went East today in the hope of something different and special and we certainly scored on that front! A call of "Skua" got the pulse rate going and on size this was a Long-tailed Skua! A juvenile as usual but a really striking pale morph dubbed the 'Blonde morph' by Bob....
After trying to sneak in on the Storm Petrels, it tried it's luck against the larger Gulls!
With no more success...
Then a fly past worthy of any air show! (Got the same shot twice!)
What an awesome plumage pattern!
Slipping away, not to be seen again!
Everything seemed stand-offish today, including the Storm Petrels...
And a disappearing view of one of the (2) Great Shearwaters...
Where's Cory's??

Scilly Pelagic no 10 - Sunday Shearwaters
The penultimate session for me - an 8.00am start with a shower to welcome us!
A half empty boat!! What's going on! We steamed 5 miles south, before drifting and chumming.....
The winds had dropped significantly but there was a decent swell and we were into quality birds - here's yet another Cory's Shearwater!
Not always easy to get the upperwing shot!
Great Shearwater yet again.....
And this time, close to the boat!
Make that VERY close :-)
Wayne will not be best pleased to know we had yet another 1st Summer Long-tailed Skua!
Just flew alongside the boat, had a look and then carried straight on!
There's always a good Gull presence on the run in and we were joined by this adult Yellow-legged Gull for much of it!
I've saved the Storm Petrels for a separate post - they showed well today!
