Another Red-throated Diver for the trips and another totally unexpected find! Either asleep and in the middle of a small lochan it was still deceptively distant. The closest it came was with its back to me but a wing flap sorted that...
They don't always point their bill upwards...
You get to appreciated the good things in life up here and summer plumage Divers are good indeed!

Highlands - Red-throated Diver
First day out cruising and bird of the day, largely due to the unexpected nature of the find, was a Red-thoated Diver on one of those small unnamed Lochans you drive past... Except this time I was stopped in my tracks and managed a few images from the parked car...
Calling or more correctly wailing! A more plaintive call would be hard to find, but no partner was forthcoming!
Paddling about, head and bill uptilted as usual...
Eventually coming out of the rippled water and falling asleep!
Here's the the closest approach...
I left him to his melancholy vigil...
