Battlefield - Cattle Egrets

Had a quick stop whilst driving to Ellesmere and the seven Cattle Egrets were still showing distantly in the stubble field they now called home... As I was passing on the way back it seemed rude not to have another look?

There were now none in sight but I was about to have one of my stored up 'lucky moments' as all seven returned in flight near the car park. I managed one frame filling bird with nothing cropped...

And then three of them perched in a nearby tree!

What a turnaround in luck (but it was my 7th visit)...

Battlefield - Cattle Egret x 7

An interesting video was posted by someone from the Battlefield falconry centre? They had spotted several white blobs on the field adjacent to the farm shop! Nice to see they had correctly identified them as Cattle Egrets!

I reported them as negative on arrival initially but after a walk around I finally found them in the same Field and the slope of the field had hid them!

Here's the magnificent seven...

Looks like someone had beaten me to it with a very natural hide?!

Splitting up into groups of 3 or four...

But always distant in appalling light!

They need to rustle up four more to beat the current best Shropshire count of 10!

Scilly day 9 - Cattle Egrets!!

I've resisted the temptation of chasing the two Cattle Egrets around and knowing they 'can' be obliging, didn't fancy scoping them from the riding stables (some 400m distant!!) But today I cracked, walking back with Martin through Old Town, I caught a whisper that they were both on Porthellick Pool..... just as a taxi approached.... I got in.....

I even dashed passed a gallery at the entrance to Higher Moors (RB Fly ignored??) made my way to the Sussex hide which was quite unbelievably empty!! And here was the view......

Separated by a tetchy Mallard!

And then picked on by a territorial Heron!

Yeah, it wasn't long before they were off - but not exactly 'off'.....

They landed directly opposite!

One of them claiming the rock as his own!

That water looks cold, I can't believe some of my family get into it!!

Eventually, something spooked them both and they were off.....

Really 'off' like flying high!

But so glad I was patient and got decent views!
