Norfolk May weekend - magic!!

A fantastic weekend, no great rarities - just loads of interesting birds and plenty of photographic memories! The total count was just over the 100 mark. First off, an unexpected Golden Pheasant!. Cley had plenty of Avocet, Redshank and Black tailed Godwit as usual (distant views but no pics of Temmincks Stint too!) . Titchwell was more interesting with a couple of Curlew Sandpipers, a Little Stint amongst the Dunlin, Spoonbill and plenty of Little Gulls. For 'cute' I had a flock of recently fledged Long tailed Tits (Kelling) to contend with. A Little Tern fishing plus a fox roaming around Cley at dusk to finish up.....

Venus Pool - Med Gull or Kingfisher...

I was eating my tea.....The vibrating mobile was only likely to mean one thing - a local bird? Thanks to Andy for tipping me off with a 1st Summer Med Gull at Venus Pool- a patch tick for me!! There was an unexpected bonus, at one stage, I didn't know which way to turn - a most photogenic Kingfisher fishing from an overhanging Teasel or the 'Med'?
The Gull stayed for a good 45' during which time it managed to lay into just about every other bird in sight (even trying to take over a Coot's nest) Eventually the Gulls ganged up and the intruder was banished.....

Venus Pool - Whimbrel calling

Whimbrels are always welcome at VP and seldom stay long. This one didn't stay either but before departing flew to the shingle island in front of the hide - much appreciated!!

Venus Pool - Garganey male showstopper

What a great day with even the 'ordinary' birds performing! A close encounter of the 'awesome' kind with this stunning male Garganey. Moorhens tearing each other limb from limb, a Heron clearly not on a diet, Dunnock amongst the blossom and a Little ringed Plover to close with!
