St. Mary's Airfield - Buff-breasted Sandpiper

After a fairly unproductive morning with Martin Grant and cutting short a lunch break at Higher Moors, the lure of one of my target birds proved too much... A breathless yomp and we were there - catching up with this 'best bird of the day' a juv Buff-breasted Sandpiper on the grass near the airport hangers!

And when there's a Wheatear for comparison, you realise just how small they are!


But they didn't really get on together which gave me flight moment...








And whilst still distant, it landed about 50m away...






But that's better than twice the distance which it usually maintained!
