Hopwood - Great Grey Shrike

Part one of a day in the West Midlands started with an unbelievably showy Great Grey Shrike at Hopwood (Worcs). I tried for it once before after the Two-bars at Wyre forest but dipped - nice to turn things around.....

Whilst it remained in the 60m+ distant range viewed from the lay-by, I tried to get some flight shots - this would have been a stunner a bit closer?

But as it got nearer, it was all about getting some detail.....

Lots of perches to choose from and none of them in the way!

Closer and closer!

Inhtently on the look out for prey!

The closest contact, I can't decide which one I like best, so here are some varied crops!

Not an everyday occurrence!!! Great Northern Diver coming up next......
