Venus Pool - Spring is in the air

The sound of song across the reserve and the building of partnerships on/near the water herald a full blown move into Spring and warmer weather. Oystercatchers and Lapwing have already paired up and with two contesting males having withdrawn their attention, this pair of Great-crested Grebes engaged in their 'mirror dance' display - sadly not at the most photogenic of angles!!

Little ringed Plovers have been back for a week now, I counted four today - two presumed males sulking on the main island as this beautiful romance blossomed....

A little toe tapping helps to attact small morsels of prey....

Highlight of the previous week was without doubt, the brief appearance (on the 2nd) of a Great grey Shrike at Walcot.

It was not found the following day and only a few distant record shots were possible.
